Ororo Munroe has been leading the X-Men and controlling the weather since the mid-1970s, and she remains one of Marvel’s most iconic mutants. This tutorial shows how to draw Storm from X-Men in her classic black costume with the flowing cape.
Bringing the Weather Goddess to Paper
The drawing process covers 17 steps, with the final image being the fully colored result. Storm’s cape takes up a lot of space and moves with its own weight, so getting the flow right early on matters. The bodysuit has subtle tonal shifts between black and dark gray that come together during coloring, but the linework underneath needs to be solid first.
Storm’s Classic Costume Details
- Long white hair blowing in wind
- Black bodysuit with yellow trim
- Black cape with gold-edged lining
- Red gem at center of chest
- White sash at the waist
Storm fits right in with other X-Men already on the site. Mystique and Gambit are both available, and if you want another Ororo design, there is also a different Storm look to try.
Decoding the Step Colors
Each image uses three line colors to separate new work from what came before:
- Red Color: lines added in the current step.
- Black Color: lines completed earlier.
- Gray Color: base sketch for structure.
