The Little Mermaid is an American animated series produced by Walt Disney Television Animation and based on the 1989 Disney film of the same name. The series features Ariel, her fish friends, Flounder and Sebastian, and other characters from the movie. The show’s 22 episodes aired on CBS from October 3, 1992 to February 15, 1994. In 1997, the series was added to the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection.
In addition to the television series, there have been two direct-to-video sequels: The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000) and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning (2008). There is also a prequel theatrical short film titled The Little Mermaid: Before the Sea Was Swept Away (2014), which was released as part of a special edition of the original film.
