How to Draw a Demogorgon in Simple Cartoon Style

The first monster to crawl out of the Upside Down became the face of Stranger Things overnight. This tutorial breaks down how to draw a Demogorgon in simple style, turning that terrifying creature into a compact, stylized version with clean outlines and flat colors.

A Simpler Take on the Upside Down’s Predator

The drawing covers 17 step-by-step images, with the final one being the colored result. Despite the creature’s complex anatomy, the simplified approach boils everything down to manageable shapes, making the flower-shaped head and muscular body much less intimidating to sketch.

The Demogorgon’s Key Features

  • Five-petal flower head with rows of teeth
  • Circular mouth opening at the center
  • Seed-shaped spots – teeth across each petal
  • Skinny humanoid body with visible ribs
  • Long arms
  • Digitigrade legs with clawed toes

This simplified creature fits right alongside the cartoon versions of the Hawkins kids. Cartoon Dustin and simplified El pair well with this drawing since both characters faced the Demogorgon in Season 1. For something more detailed, there’s also the Dustin with his pet Demodog version that features a related creature.

Following the Color System

Three colors appear in every step to separate old lines from new ones:

  • Red Color: lines added in the current step.
  • Black Color: lines completed earlier.
  • Gray Color: base sketch for structure.
