How to draw Darth Maul

Horns, tattooed face, and a double-bladed lightsaber make Darth Maul one of the most visually loaded characters in the Star Wars roster, and this guide walks through how to draw Darth Maul in a stylized form that keeps the details manageable without losing the menace.

A Stylized Take on the Sith Lord

The tutorial runs 17 steps and ends on a fully colored result. The stylized proportions, with an oversized head and hands relative to the body, simplify the anatomy so the focus shifts toward the face markings, robes, and lightsaber. The crouching combat stance introduces some asymmetry, which is the trickiest part to nail in the early sketch phase.

Darth Maul’s Key Visual Features

  • Red and black tattooed face with horns
  • Yellow glowing eyes, menacing expression
  • All-black robes and gloves
  • Double-bladed red lightsaber
  • Crouching aggressive combat pose

If you enjoy drawing Sith characters, the Darth Vader tutorial covers another dark side figure with heavy robes and dramatic presence. For something on the opposite end of the Force, Anakin Skywalker from Revenge of the Sith and the Clone Trooper are solid follow-up sketches in the same era.

Reading the Color Coding in the Steps

Each step image uses a three-color system to show progression clearly:

  • Red Color: lines added in the current step.
  • Black Color: lines completed earlier.
  • Gray Color: base sketch for structure.
