How to Draw Abel, the Mannequin from TADC

Out of all the mannequins on the beach, only one had the bright idea to draw a face on himself. This tutorial covers how to draw Abel, the self-aware mannequin NPC who showed up during the Beach Episode in The Amazing Digital Circus.

The Mannequin with a Personality

This step-by-step guide runs through 16 total images, with the last one showing the fully colored result. Abel’s design is built entirely around jointed mannequin anatomy, which means getting the segmented body parts and their connections right is the challenge here.

Abel’s Key Design Details

  • Orange wooden mannequin body throughout
  • Hand-drawn smiley face on his head
  • Visible ball joints at shoulders and knees
  • Segmented torso
  • Fingerless rounded hands

Abel comes from the same beach adventure that gave us plenty of NPC chaos. If you are looking to draw more side characters, Gummigoo is another NPC who developed a personality of his own, and Kaufmo is a main cast member whose story took a turn nobody expected. For something less humanoid, Bubble is about as far from a mannequin as you can get.

Reading the Color-Coded Steps

Each image uses three line colors so you can tell exactly what goes where:

  • Red Color: lines added in the current step.
  • Black Color: lines completed earlier.
  • Gray Color: base sketch for structure.
