Drawing a Christmas tree in kawaii style is a fun way to capture the festive spirit. The simple shapes, bright colors, and cheerful expression make it an approachable subject for beginners and seasoned artists alike. In this guide, I’ll take you step by step through creating a cute tree wearing a Santa hat, decorated with lights, and surrounded by presents.
Key Features of the Kawaii Christmas Tree
Tree Shape: A rounded, tiered tree design with smooth, simple edges.
Decorations: Yellow lights wrapped around the tree and a cheerful red Santa hat on top.
Face: A cute smiling face with closed eyes and rosy cheeks on the tree.
Presents: Colorful gift boxes with bows placed under the tree.
For this tutorial, I’ve used a color-coded system to make it easier to follow:
Red Color: Focus on the lines or shapes to draw in the current step.
Black Color: Shows the lines you’ve already completed.
Grey Color: These lines are the initial sketch for proportions and structure.
This system helps to stay on track when working through each stage of the drawing process.
Step 1: Draw the base of the Santa hat on the kawaii Christmas tree. This base represents the white part at the bottom of the hat and resembles a curved rectangle with rounded corners.
Step 2: Complete the outline of the Santa hat by drawing the top part. It curves gently to the right, ending with a pom-pom represented as a simple circle.
Step 3: From the rounded corners of the Santa hat’s base, draw two curved lines facing inward. This will form the top section of the cute, easy-to-draw kawaii Christmas tree.
Step 4: Below the previous lines, draw the next section of the tree as a wavy line to form the second layer of the tree.
Step 5: From the lower edges of the wavy shape, draw two inward-facing curved lines, similar to the earlier step. These lines will form the sides of the next section of the kawaii Christmas tree.
Step 6: Below the curved lines, draw another continuous wavy line resembling ruffles. This will form the bottom section of the Christmas tree.
Step 7: In the center of the bottom section, draw two vertical lines connecting at the base with a horizontal line to create the tree trunk. On either side of the trunk, add two horizontal rectangles to represent Christmas presents.
Step 8: Add the tree’s face by drawing a U-shaped curve in the middle of the first two sections for the mouth. Above it, draw two closed eyes shaped like rounded crescents.
Step 9: Draw small circles or ovals below the eyes for blush and simple shapes above the eyes for eyebrows, slightly covered by the hat.
Step 10: Draw two curved lines across the middle and lower sections of the tree to represent the wires for the Christmas lights.
Step 11: Along the wires, draw short downward lines to hold the lights, then add circles for the bulbs. Under the tree, add texture lines to the trunk and draw wrapping ribbons on the gifts by adding two lines on each side of the rectangles.
Step 12: Add a vertical ribbon to each gift by drawing vertical lines in the center part of each rectangle. Above the gifts, draw simple bows, as shown in the corresponding image for this step.
Step 13: Finalize the sketch of the cute cartoon kawaii Christmas tree by refining details and erasing unnecessary pencil lines. Optionally, outline the completed sketch with pen or ink, and once it’s dry, remove all remaining pencil marks. The next steps will focus on coloring the tree.
Step 14: Add base colors to your tree. Leave the hat’s base and pom-pom white, and color the hat bright red. Choose any shade of green for the tree. The lights can be yellow or any color you like. Paint the trunk brown, the gift boxes red and pink, and the ribbons blue and orange.
Step 15: This step is optional, but you can add shadows and highlights to give your tree a more polished look. For shadows on the white parts of the hat and pom-pom, I used a bluish tint. On the tree, I added a darker green for depth. Around the lights, I lightened the areas to create a glowing effect. For any element you want to darken, simply use a slightly darker shade. Or, if you’d like to add your own style, feel free to experiment with other harmonious colors.
