If you’ve enjoyed the haunted house drawing guides I’ve shared before, you’ll love this one. This time, we’re working on a more classic Halloween scene silhouette. It includes some timeless Halloween elements: a haunted house, a spooky tree, a fence, a large full moon, and, of course, a few flying bats. In the next guide, I’ll introduce a simpler version of a haunted house silhouette, but this one gives you more details to work on.
The Classic Halloween Silhouette Elements
In this drawing, we’ll focus on a few spooky but essential elements that make up the perfect Halloween silhouette:
A haunted house with glowing windows
A dead, twisted tree with bare branches
A Halloween sign
A simple picket fence
A full moon lighting up the night sky
A few bats flying around
Each of these elements adds to the classic eerie Halloween atmosphere, making the silhouette truly stand out. The design is straightforward but effective in creating a spooky scene.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Your Halloween Scene
Before we begin, let me remind you about the color guidelines. Unlike some of my previous guides, this silhouette drawing doesn’t require a rough sketch with. Since it’s a bolder design from the start, we’ll work primarily with details right away. That said, keep an eye on the colors in each step:
Red Color: Represents the current step to focus on.
Black Color: Lines you’ve already drawn and are part of the silhouette.
Grey Color: (Not applicable for this guide).

Step 1: Start by drawing the ground at the bottom of the scene and fill it in with black. This will serve as the base of the Halloween scene silhouette.
Step 2: Add a ladder leading up to the haunted house. Make sure to leave the inside of the ladder blank to give depth to the silhouette. Refer to the image for guidance on how to outline it.
Step 3: Draw the base of the haunted house by sketching the rectangular shapes on both sides of the ladder. This will form the bottom floor of the house.
Step 4: Sketch two slightly outward-curved lines for the walls of the house, and another curved line above to indicate the roof base.
Step 5: Add simple shapes for the door and windows on the first floor, and close off the outline of the roof to complete this section.
Step 6: Fill in the walls and the roof of the first floor with black, but leave the door and windows blank to create the eerie silhouette effect.
Step 7: Draw two lines from the middle of the roof upwards to start forming the second floor. Add a dividing line to separate this central part of the second floor with the tower. Then, draw two shorter lines and a pointed roof to complete the tower of the house.
Step 8: Add side parts to the house on the second floor, extending outward, and draw simple roof outlines for these sections.
Step 9: Draw three window shapes on the second floor and a round window on the tower, keeping the design simple and spooky.
Step 10: Fill in the second floor and tower with black, leaving the windows blank just like the first floor. This will complete the upper part of the haunted house.
Step 11: Draw lines inside the windows to add details. Add a column between the base of the house and the roof to provide structure. Finish the roof shapes by completing the silhouettes as shown in the image for this step.
Step 12: Add a fence to the ground floor terrace and another fence to the balcony of the tower for additional detail.
Step 13: On the right side of the scene, draw a cross-like sign with “HALLOWEEN” written on it. You can write whatever you like or simply fill it in with black. Draw two horizontal thick lines at the base to represent the fence.
Step 14: Add vertical pointed shapes to the fence to complete its design, giving it a classic haunted house look.
Step 15: Start sketching a dried-up, dead tree near the sign. Make sure to use irregular lines to give it a creepy, twisted appearance.
Step 16: Add smaller, twisted branches to the tree to make it look even more eerie and desolate.
Step 17: Draw a large circle behind the house to represent the full moon.
Step 18: For the finishing touches, draw many short curved lines to represent grass on the ground. Add three bats flying in the background, and draw simple stars around the moon. Feel free to replace any of the elements or add other silhouettes like a witch on a broomstick, a jack-o-lantern, or a black cat.
Step 19: Clean up the drawing by erasing any unnecessary lines to make the silhouette crisp and clear.
Step 20: Optionally, you can add colors to the drawing, or keep it as a simple silhouette.
