Hello fellow artists! Today, I’m going to guide you through how to draw Spinel’s original version from Steven Universe, capturing her early design that’s reminiscent of classic animation.
Sketching Spinel’s Classic Look
- Pay attention to Spinel’s rounded and soft features, including her heart-shaped hair buns and large, expressive eyes.
- Her original gemstone should be drawn right side up, a classic heart shape, to distinguish from her later upside-down heart design.
- Note the whimsical nature of her pose and expressions, true to the 1930s rubber hose style of her character inspiration.
- Adding characters like Pearl or Steven himself could give context to Spinel’s storyline and interactions. You may also want to check FNF mod versions of Spinel that I posted lately: FNF vs. Steven and Pibby Corrupted.
Your Guide to Drawing Spinel
This drawing guide will help you create your own Spinel drawing through a series of 15 images, each revealing a step in the drawing process:
- Grey Color: outlines the basic sketch of Spinel’s form.
- Black Color: shows the finalized lines from the prior steps.
- Red Color: indicates the lines you’ll add in the current step.
The guide starts with a basic sketch and gradually builds up to the inking stage (which is completely optional). Remember to let the ink dry before erasing the pencil lines to avoid smudges, leaving a clean and bold illustration.
